anhedonia

noun | inability to feel pleasure.

Anhedonia is a body of work comprised of biopic conceptual portraits organized in three separate series. It serves as an introspective narrative of struggles caused by depressive anxiety disorders. a cathartic exercise of self-exploration and performance art captured on film. this body of work is an intuitive visual language and candid expression of visceral emotions realized in physical form. Powerful yet vulnerable, these images portray jarring corporal figures suspended in darkness, embodying a tale of internal conflict with raw naked intimacy.

When viewing Anhedonia, I wish the images to resonate with those who see their own emotions reflected within this work. For others, i invite the viewer to contemplate the internal turmoil woven into each image, hoping to inspire empathy, or at the very least, compassion for those struggling with mental illness. Ultimately, it is my goal to spark conversations that challenge societal perceptions of mental illness, fostering understanding and dismantling stigma.

Each series was conceived through the use of medium and large format film photography and the alternative historical photographic process of cyanotype. I find the analog workflow affords me a slow, pensive, therapeutic process, and the tactile nature of historical photographic processes assists in further connecting me to my work.
